Archiving and Preservation Policy

Journal of Social Policy and Practice (JSPP) believes in making all research publications accessible, secure and applicable in the long run. The Archiving and Preservation Policy describes the preservation offered by the journal to its digital material in order that it can be read by the readers, researchers, and institutions much longer into the future than the technological changes or a change in platform hosting.

The basic pillars of academic integrity are archiving and preservation. By preserving articles and data related to them, JSPP makes sure that the scholarly record of the organization is complete, findable, and stable to facilitate the further research, the reliability of citation, and the ability to document history.

Key Elements of the Policy

1. Long-Term Digital Storage

Every article that has been published in JSPP is stored in safe digital formats that will ensure longevity in reading. This involves storing data in non-techno-obsolete formats and keeping backups to ensure that there is security of data in case of a loss.

2. Persistent Identifiers

Articles are given a Digital Object Identifier (DOI), a platform that gives a stable and long-term connection to the published source. DOIs allow citation to be valid and allow one to always find the content regardless of the URLs.

3. Redundant Backup Systems

In the case of accidental loss resulting from technical failures, server issues, or changes to the systems, there are multiple copies of the journal contents located in geographically-dispersed and secure locations to help reduce the risk of loss and to ensure uninterrupted access to the journal content.

4. Metadata Preservation

In addition to full text, JSPP maintains rich metadata such as article titles, author data, abstracts, dates of publication, and keywords to facilitate discovery, indexing as well as interoperability with library and search systems.

5. Participation in Trusted Archiving Solutions

In as much as possible JSPP collaborates with well-established digital preservation services and repositories which are specialized in archiving in the long term. These systems are based on industry best practice of content preservation and offer extra protection and access features.

Avantages of Archiving and Preservation

  • Unlimited Access: Readers are guaranteed of access to scholarly material at all times regardless of the changing nature of technology.
  • Reliability of research: Citations are constant and can be checked with time.
  • Security of Data: Multiple backup tiers are in place to prevent loss or corruption in JSPP.
  • Academic Honesty: Previous academic records are solid and trustworthy.

Commitment to Future Access

JSPP revises and updates its process for preserving works every so often, so that they remain current with changes to global standards and advancements in technology related to digital archives and the preservation of digital materials. It is also through these proactive initiatives that JSPP establishes a means by which to ensure the long term availability and usability of the scholarly works of its authors.

In addition to supporting the long-term growth of research and knowledge, this policy demonstrates JSPP's dedication to the appropriate stewardship of scholarly work.
