Generative AI Policy

Generative AI & AI-Assisted Technologies Policy

The Journal of Social Policy and Practice (JSPP) recognizes the growing use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in academic writing and research support. While such technologies can assist in improving language and presentation, the journal upholds the principle that all scholarly work must reflect original human intellect, critical thinking, and accountability.

AI tools may support the research process, but they must not replace human authorship, intellectual contribution, or academic responsibility.

Acceptable Use of AI Tools

  • Improving grammar, language clarity, and readability
  • Refining structure, formatting, and organization of content
  • Assisting with non-substantive editing and presentation

Prohibited Use

  • Generating original research content, arguments, or interpretations
  • Producing or manipulating data, results, or evidence
  • Writing substantial portions of the manuscript without human oversight
  • Creating figures, tables, or images unrelated to AI-focused research

Authorship and Responsibility

Only human contributors who meet authorship criteria may be listed as authors. AI tools cannot be credited as authors or contributors. Authors are fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of all submitted content, including any portions assisted by AI.

Transparency and Disclosure

Any use of AI tools must be disclosed clearly within the manuscript. Authors are required to:

  • Provide a statement describing the use of AI tools in the preparation of the manuscript
  • Identify the specific tools used and their purpose
  • Confirm that all AI-assisted content has been reviewed and validated by the authors

Ethical Compliance

The use of AI must comply with the journal’s broader publication ethics, including originality, proper citation, and avoidance of plagiarism. Any misuse of AI tools may result in rejection, correction, or retraction of the manuscript.

JSPP encourages responsible innovation while maintaining the integrity of scholarly communication. Authors are expected to use AI technologies ethically, transparently, and in a manner that upholds the credibility of academic research.
